How to plan for the perfect retirement #3 Letting go of the past

Blog

Change is always challenging, and the prospect of a significant lifestyle change late in life can be particularly traumatic if it involves downsizing from a much-loved family home or relocating to a new area. For many, the prospect of packing up a lifetime of memories to move into a retirement home can exacerbate the uncertainty which retirement may hold. Difficult as it may be, you really do need to take a pragmatic approach.

Rather than buying into the stereotype that getting older is something to be feared, why not consider all the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead – like the freedom that comes from being able to spend your time doing exactly as you please, or having the time to travel to places you’ve always wanted to go to, but have been too busy.  Retirement can be an exciting new chapter – a time to discover new interests and hobbies, make new friends, even learn new skills.
