5 ways to enjoy your city this summer
Cities seem to come alive in summer, with plenty of activities and events on the go. To make the most of the season, why not plan a few outings for the months ahead? Here are a few fun suggestions to add to your summer to-do list…
1. Have a picnic in the park
One of the best ways to enjoy a summer day is by having a picnic at a beautiful nature spot, like a safe local park. It always pays to be prepared, so here’s a quick checklist to make sure you get the most out of your day:
- Prepare a healthy lunch with plenty of bottled water
- Take sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a light cardigan
- Remember your picnic blanket and camping chairs
- Pack a good book and a deck of cards
2. Plan a coffee date
Love going out for coffee and cake? Check to see whether any popular new cafés have opened in your city and invite friends to join you as you try them out. Who knows, you may discover some new favourites!
3. Be a tourist for a day
If you have some tourist attractions in your city (whether that’s a museum, botanical garden or art gallery), why not plan a day of sightseeing on your home turf? Chances are, you haven’t visited these spots in a while (or perhaps at all) and it’s always fun to see your city through new eyes.
4. Visit a market
Many cities these days have wonderful farmer’s markets where you can buy local fresh produce, grab a bite to eat, stock up on a variety of homemade goods, and possibly even enjoy some live music. There’s usually a fun and festive atmosphere at these markets, and they make for a great day out.
5. Go to the theatre
There’s nothing quite like going to the theatre and it should definitely be high up on your to-do list. Check the listings at local theatres and choose one or two events that you’d love to see. Another great option is to book tickets for an open air cinema event – while not quite live theatre, it’s still a not-to-be-missed summer experience.
